SENIORS SECTION

Competitions Diary | Team News

Welcome to the Seniors Section web page. The Seniors meet every Thursday morning where the course is reserved for them until 1 pm. Club members aged 55 and over are eligible to join the Seniors Section for a one off entry fee of £5 and a yearly membership of £1 (in addition to their normal club membership). They can then join in the relaxing fun and competitions ranging from a friendly Texas Scramble played from normal tees to a Club Medal Competition played from competition tees. In some cases a "shotgun start" is organised so that everyone finishes roughly together and meet in the clubhouse for a social drink and snack afterwards. In all cases players normally break for free coffee and biscuits mid round.

The Seniors also play in the Manchester and District Seniors League where a team of between 12 and 20 seniors play in pairs matchplay against seniors teams from 7 other local golf clubs, both home and away. The AVRO teams are chosen so that most people, regardless of their handicap, will be picked for several games through the season. These matches end up with a sit down meal where the result is announced - quite often ending up as an "honorable draw". In 2007 we were delighted to qualify for the league final at Fairfield. There we had one of our best results, coming second to a strong Pott Shrigley team only on a card playoff.

Keep an eye on this page for late changes to the seniors fixtures list and up to date team news. If you're not a club member and are thinking of joining AVRO, you will find an ideal combination of friendly atmosphere and competitive golf waiting to welcome you - why not look at our membership page for details of how to join the club.
